This paper discusses the applications of Virtual Reality technology in mechanical and product engineering. A study illustrates the current state of the art and existing potentials for VR application in corporations. Two concrete applications are explained in detail. The first example is the visualization and simulation of an entire assembly line for processing centers. The second example shows how VR technologies can be used in the sales and marketing sector to present a new machine concept to customers using innovative tools. In addition, future trends in the fields of virtual and augmented reality are discussed
