A chacun son Internet. Enquête sur des usages ordinaires

The cyberworld insistently knocking at our door remains somewhat of a mystery to anyone wishing to define its future. This innovation, spawned by the world of research and transferred to that of the public at large, is generating multiple realities. A Hydra with several heads, the Internet proposes different offerings to a public which is equally heterogeneous. It therefore seemed appropriate to reveal emerging usage through an inquiry on the first "ordinary" users. The study presented here highlights both the remarkable categories of users in this varied population and the mediations shaping their practices. It considers the Internet as an interpersonal communication tool (related to former technologies and specific characters). It also, by focusing on surfing on the network, highlights the fact that the Internet is causing an upheaval in people's relationships with information and their ways of retrieving and processing it.Le cybermonde qui frappe à notre porte avec insistance demeure bien opaque pour qui veut en cerner le devenir. Cette innovation issue du monde de la recherche et transférée au monde du grand public génère des réalités multiples. Hydre à plusieurs têtes, Internet propose des offres différentes à des publics qui ne le sont pas moins. Il convient alors d'en donner à voir les usages émergents en menant une enquête sur ses premiers utilisateurs « ordinaires ». L'étude menée met en lumière à la fois les catégories d'utilisateurs remarquables dans cette population hétérogène et les médiations qui mettent en forme ces pratiques. Elle traite d'Internet en tant qu'outil de communication interpersonnelle (parenté avec les technologies anciennes et caractères spécifiques) et souligne, en s 'attachant à la pratique du surf sur le réseau, le fait qu'Internet bouscule le rapport à l'information, dans son accès et son traitement.Boullier Dominique, Charlier Catherine.
