The notion of event, as it can be observed in Northern Irish news, can be understood in terms of distinct but simultaneous processes of narration and sense construction. To these processes correspond very specific temporal structures. Situated between news and history, the event implies that journalists know the past and link this knowledge to their discursive production. This process of narration takes place in the present, but both past and future are mobilized. At the same time, information makes an event according to a dual temporality which links latency and current events. This temporality is that of information sense construction.
