When producing mega-yachts, high qualitiy is required for their surface finish. Because of the relatively high shipbuilding tolerances, all outer surfaces in the above-water area of the yacht are smoothened and polished prior to the application of finishing coat of lacquer. The surface deviations have so far but insufficiently been registered by means of simple testing instruments (sheer lath, ruler). In order to register the surface deviations on a large scale, 3-D laser scanners are suitable. The measurements carried out with their help are intended to reduce the amount of putty required by decreasing the thickness of the putty layer.
