Powder injection moulding as a near net shaping technology with a high automation potential can be seen as one of the most economical processing routes for complex-shaped ceramic or metal parts produced in large numbers. Component injection moulding is well known as a polymer shaping process. Its use in powder technology opens up the possibility to create innovative ceramic-metal or metal-ceramic composites. The co-shaping e.g. of ZrO2 and steel 17-4PH takes place directly in the injection moulding machine as the mould is filled. The following step of co-firing debinds and sinters the part to nearly theoretical density. Access to this novel manufacturing technology is based on the realization of strategies geared to achieving a stable ceram...
