Desjardins Bertrand and Charbonneau Hubert. - Can longevity be Inherited ? Do the life-spans of children reflect those of their parents ? We attempted to test this hypothesis on the population of Quebec during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, for settlers who married before 1665 and their descendants. The children of parents who had died at a vipe old age, tended themselves to have lived longers. The correlation, though slight, and sometimes not significant, is always positive, particularly, for boys. In addition, the dispersion of ages at death of fathers and sisters is smaller dispersed than that of non- brothers or non-sisters, which supports the hypothesis of a family component in longevity.
