Provisioning of multimedia services over next generation network and across heterogeneous fixed and mobile networks challenges the developers to define a unified triple play framework solution. However the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Projects (3GPP and 3GPP2) represents today a basis framework that enables the vision of providing triple play services with quality of service and mobility support across heterogeneous networks. The Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS has recently launched the FOKUS Media Interoperability Lab (MIL) that is based on the "Open IMS Playground" testbed.
