The main aim of this paper is the symbolic representation of the Ukrainian steppe in poems of great Polish poets (Malczewski, Mickiewicz, Goszczyński, Słowacki). Attention is devoted to describe how the Ukrainian steppe (as a geographical space that is all the time the same) changes in poems of different authors.The steppe in Malczewski's "Maria" is a methaphisical representation of the world, it is a realisation of philosophical and mental landscape as well as a projection of the feelings of the author.
