In 1995, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) launched its intiative on a 2020 Vision for Food Agriculture, and the Environment. The vision is one of a food secure, malnutrition-free world by the year 2020 -- a world in which every person is assured access at all times to the food required to lead a healthy and productive life. During the past 25 years, food production has consistently kept pace with population growth, and since the early 1060s, food availability per person has increased by almost 20 percent. Nevertheless, nearly 800 million people in developing countries -- a population double that of the European Union -- lack access to a minimally adequate diet.Non-PRIFPRI3; 2020; HungerDG
