A Survey in the Upper Wadi Feiran Basin, Southern Sinai

A survey of the Upper Feiran basin in 1982 has provided information concerning the presence of several archaeological techno-complexes previously known from the southern Levant. Sites belonging to the Middle Paleolithic, Upper Paleolithic, Epipaleolithic and Neolithic were discovered in the upland areas between Tarfat el Quidrein Oasis and the Plain of Rah'a in the upper reach of the Wadi el Sheikh. The Upper and Epipaleolithic sites were associated with marshes or ponds which were present in the area at many times during the Late Pleistocene.L'exploration, en 1982, du bassin du Haut Feiran, a révélé la présence de plusieurs « techno-complexes » archéologiques connus jusqu'alors au Levant Sud. Des sites appartenant au Paléolithique Moyen, au Paléolithique Supérieur, à l'Epipaléolithique et au Néolithique ont été découverts dans les reliefs situés entre l'Oasis de Tarfat el Quidrein et la Plaine de Rah'a dans le bassin supérieur du Wadi el Sheikh. Les sites du Paléolithique Supérieur et de l'Epipaléolithique étaient associés aux zones marécageuses ou aux bassins souvent présents dans la région au Pléistocène final.Phillips James L., Gladfelter Bruce G.
