A small clay pot from the Neolithic site of Ganj Dareh (Iran), dating to the 8th millennium В. С, is examined. The pot had been manufactured in two separate sections. A number of hypotheses are presented in order to explain the methods of manufacture employed. Some experiments are carried out to test several of the hypotheses. The results of the study, although not entirely conclusive, suggest that two of the eight hypotheses are more plausible than the others, and that the maker of the pot probably-used two separate techniques in its manufacture : the upper part was made by coiling, while the lower part was made either on a mould or by modeling a lump of clay with the fingers.Un petit vase en terre du site néolithique de Ganj Dareh (Iran) ...
