Hardware of an Ultrasound Sampling Phased Array System. The ultrasonic front-end system developed by the Fraunhofer IZFP-D consists of up to 64 ultrasonic channels. The system is able to work in three modes: (a) multichannel ultrasound (each channel deals with a separate sensor signal), (b) phased array (summation of up to 16 phase-shifted channels), and (c) sampling phased array (storage of the complete sensor data, software reconstruction of the phased array picture). The ultrasound channel hardware described in the paper makes possible the ultrasound testing even of damping materials by a high transmitter voltage and a large receiver input dynamic.
