The use of digital technologies in filmmaking constantly increases. With this trend the question arises how to preserve the enormous amounts of image data for the future. The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS developed together with leading European film archives methods and formats for long-term preservation of digital films and easier access in a plethora of formats. But not only digitally produced movies benefit from this approach. It can also be used to make the inventories of film archives available to a wider audience
