The Islamic system of power according to Ibn Khaldûn A. Cheddadi The Muqaddima of Ibn Khaldûn, a Maghribi historian of the 14 th century (1332-1406) contains a model of human society which is at the same time a theory concerning the relationship between urban and rural pastoral societies. It is appropriate to study Ibn Khaldùn's conception of the Islamic political system within the framework of this model. One of the key concepts for understanding this model is the notion o/jâh, a concept which escaped the attention of modern scholars.
