Macaranga grandifolia also known as “takip-asin” or “Binuñgang-malapad” in tagalong, is a small deciduous tree found in secondary forest at low altitudes in Luzon and Mindoro. The leaves are used as fodder, to wrap food and its ash is eaten for enlarged bellies. The resin is utilized as a glue for musical instruments and as astringent gargle for mouth ulcers. Chemical investigation of the dichloromethane extracts of Macaranga grandifolia has led to the isolation of vedelianin (1-MGrL01), squalene (2-MGrL03), -carotene (3-MGrL04), and polyprenol (4-MGrL05) from the leaves; a mixture of β-sitosterol and stigmasterol (5-MGrB2); and monoacylglycerols (6-MGrF08) and saturated fatty acids (7-MGrF13) from the fruit.
