Summary : Mental development in children : the new « continuity » perspective. Is there continuity in mental development front infancy through childhood ? Contemporary opinion espouses discontinuity views, but in recent years the empirical bases on which these dominant opinions were founded have come under criticism, and new findings have corne to light that directly support a continuity view. As a consequence, a revietv and revision of this all-important psychological and developmental question is in order. This paper has two main purposes.
