Summary : How the eyes explore lines of symbols? The purpose of this study is to test whether eye movements during reading can be controlled on a moment-to-moment basis by ongoing information processing. A reduction of fixation duration by previous peripheral pre-processing has been shown at least in a repetitive two saccade situation (Levy-Schoen 1981). We are extending this work in a scanning situation resembling reading, which involves a local decision concerning the point to send the eye next.
