Summary The comprehension of comparative sentences expressing inequality was studied with a verification task (sentence-image). The results obtained in two experiments show that the two main factors: type of comparator and type of adjective (marked vs unmarked), have a significant influence on the duration of processing. When « true » sentences are considered, ihere is in addition a strong interaction between these two factors.
