Summary The three experiments reported here deal with the mnemonic integration of verbal sequences formed of two items : item 1 = art + N + V ; item 2 = art + N + Adj. While some sequences, when integrated, may give rise to a unit of higher order — a sentence —, others do not elicit such an integration. Two sorts of item 1 have been distinguished according to the lexical characteristics of the verb : those for which verbs admit omission of the direct obj'ect (Te) and those for which this is not possible (T). The results show that the subjects do use a strategy of integration and that this strategy is highly dependent upon the lexical characteristics of verbs.
