Summary Two groups of subjects studied during an unlimited time period a list of eight non-significant number-letter associates. They were instructed to stop learning only when they had perfectly mastered ail the material. Group 1 had no possibility of recall between different periods of study (group NR, non-recall) ; group II interspersed study cycles with recall periods (group R, recall). The level of difficulty of the paired associates inluenced the length of study and treatment time in both groups. The treatment time, the final performance and the degree of certainty were highest in group R. These latter results suggest that several recall periods between study cycles give the subject a clearer estimation of the amount learned.Résumé De...
