Summary On a tachistoscope, in an identification task, two number series were presented, consisting of one figure (numbers NI), or two figures (numbers N2). The latter series was obtained by the adjunction of a nought after each number of the first series. The adjunction of a zero influenced the results by : 1) increasing the minimum lenght of presentation time necessary for identification of the stimulus, and 2) an increase in the number of errors before a correct response was obtained. The first series of four stimuli (NI) were all words of one syllable but with the adjunction of a zero, the second series of four stimuli (N2) became words of one, two, three and four syllables. The results show that the rise in the identification threshold...
