SUMMARY The inter-stimulus interval between two successive letters presented at the same place is the essential temporal parameter for the mnemonic integration of these letters into words. The presentation duration of each letter is critical only in as much as it is necessary to make each letter perceptible (duration between 50 ms and 100 ms). We investigated the influence of 6 presentation intervais and durations ranging from 50 ms to 800 ms.
