Summary We have studied the response latency on immediate recall of five CVCVC letter sequences presented either visually or auditively. There are two conditions of immediate recall interoening immediately after the presentation of the last letters : the subject must enunciate the letters either one by one and in the order of the presentation, or he must encode them in the form of two syllabes. The latter can form words or paralogues in the order of presentation. The time of enunciation response, i.e. the interval between the presentation of the last letter and the beginning of the response, is independant of the way in which the letters are presented. On the other hand, the time of the enunciation response of words or paralogues is longer ...
