The experiments reported here are a contribution to the study of identification of verbal stimuli. The task requested of 16 adult subjects consisted in repeating auditory stimuli as quickly as possible. In the first experiment, the authors studied the influence of the frequency in language (the stimuli were frequent words, rare words and two types of paralogs). In the second experiment the influence of the context was tested (some of the words heard were grouped and belonged to one semantic category, and some not). The response-times were determined by a graphic analysis of tape recordings. The results show that both factors studied have a positive influence and lead to a shorter response-time. In the discussion, the authorspoint out ...
