The Effect of the Liberalization of African Airline Markets on the Development of African Economies

For the longest time, air transport in Africa has been difficult. Airfares remain high, travel time long, and connectivity levels very low. While some countries like Kenya and Ethiopia have notably grown their airline industries in Africa, while at the same time boosting their economies, this is not the reality for the rest of the continent. My present paper seeks to evaluate the impact of airline market liberalization on the development of African economies. Precisely, if liberalization is a known factor that boosts the economy of a country, is it necessarily true for African economies in particular? I have found that in 2019, liberalization has had a positive effect on the number of people employed in the services industry. I believe that liberalization opens up air traffic, so people are able to travel for business or tourism, which in turn creates employment in the services industry
