Comorbidities of Anxiety and Substance Use Across Age

Previous research suggests that the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders is on the rise for young adults. In addition to growing reports of anxiety in young adults, research has also shown a corresponding increase in substance use. It has been well established that there is a high comorbidity rate between anxiety and substance use. However, little research has specifically analyzed age as a leading factor for comorbidity disorders. The purpose of our study is to closely re- examine the direct relationship between age maturation and the comorbidity of anxiety and substance abuse. The findings will reestablish the significance of anxiety disorder by providing representative data supporting the prevalence of anxiety’s coocurrence with substance use in young adults.
