We have been studying the combustion properties of magnesium based pyrolants using perfluorinatedtetrazolates as alternative oxidizers to PTFE [1-3]. Perfluorinatedtetrazolates yield higher burn rates, larger flame envelopes (which enhance radiant intensity) and show reduced susceptibility to windstream degradation. In the present work the aerobic ambient pressure combustion of a wide stoichiometric range (zeta(Mg): 8- 80 wt-%) of magnesium/cesium 5-trifluoromethyltetrazolate, [Cs][(N4C)CF3], pyrolants has been studied with UV-VIS, NIR and IR-spectroscopy and optical high-speed camera.
