This article seeks to relate sense of smell and its impacts on subjectivity and culture based the Lotmanian concept of frontier. To this end, the topic of Bakhtinian carnivalization will also be fundamental to think about the body inserted in the concepts mentioned above. The semiotic, philosophical and historical reflections herein orbit around a common object: the sense of smell and its transgressive character regarding borders, as well as its representations - whether by body scents taken as natural, or by perfumes made by artists of the craftsmanship of this luxury object.Este artigo procura relacionar o olfato e seus impactos na subjetividade e na cultura a partir do conceito lotmaniano de fronteira.
