The thesis goes into detail on the process that goes into constructing a reliable discrete event simulation model with historical and empirical data, data analysis and modelling with MATLAB and SimEvents. The final model demonstrates how performance metrics are affected by increased arrivals of patients and also simulates which imaging modalities would be most beneficial to add. The results indicate that, with the current setup, an increase of 50% in patient arrivals would lead to roughly 5 times the average space needed for waiting areas as well as on average 3 more radiologists on duty.
