El presente artículo trata de ofrecer un recorrido sobre los orígenes de la actual Corte Penal Internacional, nacida en el año 1998 de la mano del conocido como Estatuto de Roma. En los momentos actuales, tristemente condicionados por la cruel agresión rusa a Ucrania, el papel de la CPI cobra aún más importancia a la hora de poder eventualmente depurar responsabilidades por la comisión de crímenes internacionales.
