Location determination and motion recognition by inertial measurement units is an important element to one indoor navigation system. By the use of customary and cost-efficient inertial measurement unit, for example acclerometers or gyroscopes, the usage of an error correction is necessary in order to use the acquired sensordatas optimally, even over a longer period of time. In this thesis basic notions and methods of indoor navigation will be annotated and also still existing projects will showed. Those are categorized according to their technology used and examined for characteristics and weak spots
