The United States of America has been always considered the land of promise and the land of liberty. Thousands of people from all the nations of Europe and Asia have come here in search of asylum, because of religious or political persecutions, or for economic reasons. In spite of the initial difficulties which they encountered in the new land, their lot gradually improved, they prospered and made their new country the world power it is today. They have built a monumental civilization in the modern era. The people of America are willing and able to share their acquisitions with the people of the world. This is a unique country, where people of different nationality, religion, and race live in neighboring communities and work for the common good. Among the citizens of America there are many Polish immigrants who came to this country along with the others, for political or economic reasons. Poland has a history of her own, glorious and tragic ; the Polish people, in the course of history, have been forced out of their country many times and obliged to seek refuge in different parts of the world. In the early nineteenth century Polish leaders sought political asylum in America, and in the following decades Polish peasants came to this country in search of better living conditions
