Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed male cancer in the Western world and a leading cause of cancer-related death in men. In the search for novel markers for diagnosis and selective targeting of prostate cancer cells, tumor-specific surface antigens need to be identified, which discriminate between cancer and benign stem/progenitor cells. The discovery of cell surface markers in prostate cancer in prostate assists in the discrimination between benign and malignant stem/progenitor cells at different levels of differentiation.
