In this thesis the function and interaction of key regulatory genes ensuring cell fate decisions and plant growth under different growth conditions are presented and the bZIP transcription factor PERANTHIA (PAN) is positioned in this network as an important transcriptional switch or regulator. The model plant Arabidopsis thaliana has been used to study molecular genetics and environmental impacts on plant growth. The regulation of plant growth is complex and dependent on production of sufficient cells at the right time with the right developmental program to perform the functions needed such as flowering or seed production.
