In the present thesis LPCVD hard coatings, deposited in the TiC1-xNx, TiBxCyNz und Ti-B-N system, are characterized using Raman spectroscopy, WDS, XRD, SEM and XPS with regard to their composition, oxidation and tribological behavior. For the TiC1-xNx and TiBxCyNz coatings, even small changes in the C:N ratio result in systematical shifts of the Raman modes. These shifts are highly correlating to changes in the lattice constants, which are independently derived from XRD measurements. For Ti-B-N coatings, the high sensitivity of Raman spectroscopy regarding composition changes further enabled the clear identification of TiB in low boron containing coatings (B < 18 at %).
