Treatment of CH3O-C6H3-3,5-(CH2PtBu2)2 (1) with IrCl3 in i-PrOH/H2O or with [Ir(COE)2Cl]2 in toluene gives the cyclometalated pincer chlorohydrido iridium complex [CH3O-C6H3-3,5-(CH2PtBu2)2]IrHCl (1a) and a doubly metalated compound 1b. Structure of 1b was revealed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Experiments were carried out to attach hydrolysable groups to these ligand complexes for the purpose of stationary phase synthesis.
