Kennzeichnend für Legionellen ist ihre Fähigkeit zur intrazellulären Vermehrung. Die eukaryontischen Mikroorganismen Acanthamoeba castellanii und Hartmanella vermiformis stellen die häufigsten Wirte dar. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit konnte ein System etabliert werden, in dem ein Überstand von Acanthamoeba castellanii im Large-Scale-Verfahren hergestellt werden kann, der auf intrazelluläre Legionelleninfektionen einen wachstumssteigernden Effekt besitzt. Die Vermehrungssteigerung ist unabhängig von Zell-Zell-Interaktionen.
