Verbesserung der Umwelteigenschaften von Wärmedämmverbundsystemen (WDVS) - Evaluierung der Einsatzmöglichkeiten biozidfreier Komponenten und Beschichtungen

In a descriptive research project the „status quo“ of the use of ETICS with regard to the use of biocides against biological growth was investigated within the German speaking area. With the overall aim of improving environmental protection and sustainability, the project was intended to provide basic information to prevent the flat-rate use of biocides and identify casespecific solutions. A positive discussion about ETICS should be encouraged. By identifying locations and operating conditions which do not demand biocides against biological growth, the study is meant to provide a base to develop a decision-making tool for use biocide products for façades. The project contained three work packages, which were literature research and market analysis, data collection through online survey and expert assessment of selected objects on site, as well as the analysis of the acquired data. The presentation of the results in an expert discussion will complete the project. In the online survey 140 homeowners provided evaluable data and 51 of those objects were selected for a further data collection by experts. In most of the examined cases the statistical data analysis did not show any correlation between the investigated parameters and the biological growth potential. Only the exposure showed a significant influence, with western and northern façades having a significantly higher probability for biological growth than the eastern and southern expositions. Furthermore, the study could not demonstrate a correlation between antimicrobial treated surfaces and user satisfaction. Benefits and requirements of the use of biocides in ETICS therefore have to be regarded carefully.
