This thesis explored several aspects relevant for the management of gout in clinical practice. The different studies contribute to the paradigm of the 21st century that management of gout context and patients’ experiences should be considered. Furthermore, it showed that a treatment focused on serum uric acid with urate-lowering therapy might have some advantages, but also at the expense of more healthcare visits. In addition, this thesis resulted in development of support tools to facilitate shared-decision making and improve adherence to urate-lowering therapy.
