The relationship between risk factors of bladder cancer and tumor grade

BACKGROUND : The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between risk factors of bladder cancer and tumor grading among Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Hamedan, Iran between 21st March 2006 and 20th March 2015.METHODS: The study population of this retrospective, the cross-sectional study consisted of patients with bladder cancer who were referred to Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Hamedan, Iran between 21st March 2006 and 20th March 2015 and underwent treatment. A total of 474 patients were enrolled in the study, including 410 men and 64 women. Then, using statistical techniques, the relationship between risk factors including age, sex, place of residence, smoking, opiate consumption, family history of urinary tract cancer and grading of bladder cancer in three grades was studied.RESULTS: The findings showed that the most common abnormalities were among third grade patients. In terms of pathology, more than 95% of cases of bladder tumors were transitional cell carcinoma (TCC).CONCLUSIONS: Demographic variables such as age, gender, and place of residence were not statistically significantly associated with the grade of bladder cancer. However, with increasing the mean age, the grade of cancer seems to have increased. tobacco smoking, opiate consumption, and familial history of cancer affect the grade and severity of bladder cancer
