De implementatie van de NDF Zorgstandaard Diabetes: Onderzoek onder zorgprofessionals en patiënten in het kader van het Nationaal Actieprogramma Diabetes.

The implementation of the dutch diabetes federation health care standard for type 2 diabetes among health care professionals and patients the main aim of this study was to obtain insight in the implementation of the dutch diabetes federation health care standard for type 2 diabetes and the barriers and facilitating factors that play a major role. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among health care professionals (n=1.726) and patients (n=571). Additionally, in-depth interviews were conducted among both groups (n respectively 25 and 8). The study took place between june 2010 and january 2011. The results showed that 37.6% of the health care professionals were in possession of the standard. The most important barriers that professionals experienced were the lack of effective lifestyle interventions, care for groups that are difficult to reach, funding of care, registration and exchange of information and multidisciplinary collaboration. Of the patients, 16.7% was in possession of the ‘diabetes zorgwijzer’ (patient version of the standard), while 50.8% was not familiar with it. Patients were predominantly neutral about the ‘zorgwijzer’ as a useful tool. In order to successfully disseminate the health care standard, attention should be paid to the most important barriers experienced by health care professionals in working in accordance with the health care standard
