Ordering transition and critical phenomena in a three component polymer mixture of A/B homopolymers and a A-B diblockcopolymer

In dieser Arbeit wurden Kleinwinkel Neutronenstreuexperimente an einer dreikomponentigen Polymermischung bestehend aus einer binären kritischen Mischung aus Polystyrol und Polybutadien und dem entsprechenden symmetrischen Diblockcopolymer untersucht. Die Analyse der kritischen Exponenten ergeben sehr genau den Übergang vom Molekularverhalten bei hohen Temperaturen zu den von thermischen Fluktuationen dominierten Bereichen bei tiefen Temperaturen sowie den Übergang von der 3d-Ising zu der Lifschitz der kritischen Universalitätsklasse. Neu gefunden wurde ein Doppeltkritischer Punkt, der das Zweiphasengebiet zu hohen Diblock Konzentrationen hin abschließt, sowie eine Tröpfen und bikontinuierliche Mikroemulsion. Eine detaillierte Analyse der Ginzburg Zahl zeigt sehr klar den unterschiedlichen Grad der thermischen Fluktuationen der Zusammensetzung in den einzelnen Universalitätsklassen und damit auch den Grund für das Auftreten einer Mikroemulsionsphase. This study represents small angle neutron scattering experiments of a three component polymer mixture composed of the near critical binary blend polystyrene/polybutadiene and the corresponding symmetric diblock copolymer. A detailed analysis of the critical exponents clearly demonstrates crossover from meanfield at high temperature to the fluctuation dominated regimes at low temperature, and with increasing diblock content crossover from 3d-Ising to isotropic Lifshitz classes of critical universality. New observations are the double critical point terminating the two-phase regime at high diblock concentration, and a droplet and bicontinuous microemulsion phases. A detailed analysis of the Ginzburg number clearly demonstrates the very different strength of thermal composition fluctuations within the different classes of critical universality and gives the reason of the observation of a microemulsion phases
