We review the formulation and properties of scalar field theories defined on fuzzy spaces. We go over the two most important features that caused by the short distance structure – the UV/IR-mixing and the non-uniform order phase. We then review the matrix model approach to the analysis of fuzzy field theories, describe the relevant models and discuss the most recent results of this approach
