International audienceLocated in the region between Sétif, Mila and Jijel on the western limits of Ifriqiya, the territory of the Kutāma experienced a significant spatial and social evolution after the Umayyad conquests of the region. Although the process of Islamization is little known, the communities of the region were placed in the same category, the Kutāma, following intense Ismaelite missionary activity. This categorization in turn provoked a first phase of territorial extension to encompass the city of Constantine.
