International audienceThe aim of this article is to compare the results of present-day archaeological and palaeoenvironmental studies on the occupation of hilltop settlements in Auvergne at two periods : firstly, during the Early Protohistory (Late Bronze Age III and First Iron Age) and, secondly, during Late Antiquity, and the Early Middle Ages. Each of these periods seems to be characterized by a significant frequentation of low mountain region. This first assessment was a good opportunity to develop a close and lasting dialogue between specialists.
