Special educational needs and disability (SEND)

Objectives for this chapter: • To explore the importance of inclusive values to underpin positive practice for learners with SEND • To consider the implications of key legislation in relation to SEND • To explore how teachers can meet the individual and diverse needs of pupils with SEND • To understand the role of the Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo). The ITT Core Content Framework (DfE, 2019) sets out the principle that quality-first teaching is a vital factor in improving outcomes for all pupils. In this chapter, we consider how our values and the legislative framework for SEND shape everyday inclusive classroom practice.
