International audienceIn his definition of national heritage André Chastel explains how its enlargement takes into account “the most remarkable emotional value in order to designate certain fundamental conditions of the national existence, of even human existence”. By joining “national heritage” to “collective conscience”, Chastel’s idea opens the way to consider “cultural and intangible heritage”.
