Designed by I.M. Pei and Zion & Breen, Cathedral Plaza was intended to be a marvelous piazza as the forecourt for one of Providence’s most monumental and important churches, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. The goal of the project, although never met, was to include activity generators and visual want to make it a hub of Providence life. This failed revitalization attempt cut Westminster Street in two parts, the downtown and West End sides, and forced a physical divide upon the city.https://digitalcommons.ric.edu/smolski_images/1041/thumbnail.jp
