Die hypoxische pulmonale Vasokonstriktion (HPV) ist eine physiologische Anpassungsreaktion der Lungengefäße an Hypoxie. Dieser als von-Euler-Liljestrand-Mechanismus bekannte Vorgang dient zur Optimierung des Gasaustausches. Unter chronischer Hypoxie (z.B. COPD, Höhenaufenthalt) kommt es jedoch zu pathologischen Umbauvorgängen, die zu vaskulärem Remodeling und pulmonaler Hypertonie führen können. Als Sensor- und Effektorzellen konnten pulmonalarterielle glatte Gefäßmuskelzellen (PASMCs) identifiziert werden, welche durch Ca2+-Einstrom kontrahieren und angeregt durch Transkriptionsfaktoren, wie z.B.
