LAW SCHOOL ADVOCACY TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION NEXT WEEK

Tuesday, April 2, 2002 WRITER: Heidi Murphy, 706/542-5172, hmurphy@uga.edu CONTACT: Kellie Casey, 706/542-2739, krcasey@uga.edu LAW SCHOOL ADVOCACY TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION NEXT WEEK ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia School of Law\u27s moot court team will make its fourth appearance in six years at the American Bar Association\u27s National Moot Court Competition later this week (April 4-6) in Chicago. The law school\u27s team, comprised of second-year students Bart Newman, Mack McGuffey and DaVida Sams, will compete against 16 other regional champions for the national title. This team won the right to compete in the national tournament by defeating Stetson University in the final round of the regional tournament held in Atlanta last month. At the regional competition, UGA had two teams competing. Four of the six students won individual oralist honors. They were: Newman, Sams, Josh Belinfante and Kimberly Ellison. Advocacy Directory Kellie Casey said she is pleased with the team\u27s preparation to date. Both of our teams performed well in the regional competition and the team that is advancing had two members win individual awards. They have been practicing hard all month and should represent UGA well at the national tournament, she said. This law school moot court team is coached by third-year students Alison Sawyer and Mary Paige Tucker and is advised by 1996 graduate of the School of Law Holly Pierson. #
